Reflecting on the previous year is meaningful as we progress into 2021. While we understandably could focus on the challenges – physical, emotional and financial – it is the goodness in people that is strikingly evident.

Nurses caring for the sick after long hours. Teachers flexing their styles to keep learning going. Police officers risking self-harm to protect the innocent. Workers continuing to keep their companies running. Senior living staff adding that extra bit of humanity as their residents are locked inside. Our military protecting our freedom. Citizens passionately advocating to make things better.

Those and so many other examples – large and small – show we are strong, good people seeking ways to help others.

As Johnnies, the Benedictine values and holistic development we have internalized from our time on campus give us special insight and a call to action. It is incumbent upon each of us – all 27,000 Johnnies across the globe – to preserve this legacy by helping to identify the next generation of students, ensuring the specialness of the experience is preserved, supporting each other in our journeys and contributing financially.

Our actions – large and small – make a difference.

Keep it up and thank you for whatever selfless part, large or small, that you did this past year.

Once a Johnnie, always a Johnnie. Johnnies for Life.
